Gingerbread House Crafts

Here are some fun and easy gingerbread house crafts we've enjoyed this season. With basic supplies like popsicle sticks, glue, and construction paper, you can easily adapt these festive DIY gingerbread house ideas using materials you likely already have at home. Perfect for holiday crafting with kids or as a cozy family activity!

But first, set the holiday mood! Bake gingerbread cookies (use pre-made dough or make them from scratch!), pour hot cocoa for everyone, and play your favorite holiday music. Now, let’s start creating fun and festive holiday crafts!

1. Popsicle Stick Gingerbread House

Supplies:
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Construction Paper (glitter paper works great, but plain or homemade glitter is fine too)
  • Popsicle Sticks (regular or gingerbread-colored for a festive touch)
  • Small Pom Poms (colorful and white, or substitute with construction paper or beads)
  • Christmas Stickers and/or Little Christmas Trinkets
  • Cotton Balls (for snow)
  • Bead or Button (for the door knob)

Instructions:
  1. Cut out a house shape from construction paper: a square (just smaller than the height of the popsicle sticks) connected to a triangle for the roof.
  2. Glue the popsicle sticks horizontally onto the house shape.
  3. Glue pom poms along the triangle roof to create a festive look.
  4. Add white pom poms along the bottom edge of the roof for extra snow detail.
  5. Glue a stretched-out cotton ball along the bottom of the house to create a snow effect.
  6. Cut a door of any desired shape from construction paper and glue it onto the house.
  7. Add stickers and trinkets for decoration, as desired.

 2. Construction Paper Gingerbread House

Supplies:
  • Brown construction paper
  • White construction paper
  • Colorful paper (for Jelly Drops)
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions:
  1. Cut out shapes from brown paper:
    • Square (house), triangle (roof), rectangle (chimney), two plus signs (windows), and a domed rectangle (door).
  2. Cut a V-shape from white paper for snow/frosting on the roof.
  3. Cut two small squares for windows (we used light blue), and optionally, a window for the door.
  4. Cut Jelly Drop shapes from colorful papers.
  5. Assemble your house:
    • Glue the roof to the house.
    • Attach the snow to the roof.
    • Add the windows and door.
    • Decorate with Jelly Drops along the roof and house bottom.
  6. Optional: Glue to another sheet for a backdrop or leave free-standing.
