The Cardinal Cupboard
From Cardinal Farms
Some recipes come from cookbooks. Others are passed from one kitchen to another, carrying a little piece of family history with them.
This recipe is one of those.
When my boys were little, their Nanna taught me how to make these sausage balls. At the time, they were one of the few things I could count on the boys eating during our Thanksgiving gatherings. It quickly became our "go-to" recipe whenever we wanted something simple that everyone loved.
Over the years, what began as a holiday tradition found its way into everyday life. Before long, these sausage balls became a favorite breakfast on busy school mornings, an easy snack after a long day, and a recipe that was requested often enough that I stopped waiting for Thanksgiving to make them.
It's funny how that happens. Sometimes the recipes that become family staples aren't the ones we spend hours preparing. They're the simple ones that bring everyone to the kitchen.
So, as we kick off another school year, I thought I'd share one of our family's favorites with yours.
Nanna's Sausage Balls
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground pork sausage
- 2 cups grated mild cheddar cheese
- 3 cups biscuit mix
Directions
Preheat your oven to 325°F.
Combine the sausage, cheese, and biscuit mix in a large bowl until well mixed. Roll into bite-sized balls and place them on a lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Serve warm...and don't expect leftovers.
From Cardinal Farms
Cardinal Farms is the dream my husband Zach and I are building together—a place rooted in faith, family, good food, and the belief that life's sweetest moments are often the simplest ones.
Through The Cardinal Cupboard, I'll be sharing family recipes, the stories behind them, and little reminders that home isn't built in grand gestures. It's built in everyday moments, around kitchen tables, over shared meals, and through traditions that are lovingly passed from one generation to the next.
Thank you for pulling up a chair at our table. I hope you'll join us again next time for another recipe and another story from The Cardinal Cupboard.
