It's All About Love

When Chris Branam moved to Baldwin County during the height of the 2020 pandemic, she had one constant companion by her side – her beloved dog, Zeke. Their bond was unbreakable, a source of comfort during uncertain times. Then came the day no pet owner wants to face. Zeke fell ill suddenly and, despite Chris's best efforts, crossed the rainbow bridge.

Left with a heart full of love but nowhere to direct it, Chris found herself drawn to the Baldwin County Animal Shelter. What began as volunteer work quickly revealed a deeper calling. She witnessed firsthand the overwhelming number of animals who needed more care and support to find their perfect match and fur-ever home.
"I saw so many wonderful dogs who just needed a chance," Chris shares, emotion evident in her voice despite her attempt to remain composed. "Each one reminded me of Zeke in some way – that unconditional love, that desire to connect."
This realization sparked the creation of Zeke's Rescued Paws, a tribute to her faithful companion and a lifeline for animals throughout our community. Years later, the rescue continues its mission of saving lives and creating forever families.
Beyond adoption services, Zeke's has developed programs addressing the root causes of pet homelessness. They provide spay/neuter assistance to families who might otherwise struggle with the cost, helping prevent unwanted litters while keeping beloved pets with their families.
The rescue's impact is measured in wagging tails and happy homes. Dozens of animals who might have never had their chance now thrive with families who adore them, all because Chris transformed her grief into purpose.
However, Zeke's faces challenges that many rescues encounter. Foster homes are desperately needed to provide temporary safe havens for animals awaiting adoption. These volunteer families offer crucial socialization and love during transition periods, making dogs more adoptable while creating space for the rescue to help more animals.
As Chris speaks about her work, the passion behind her eyes is unmistakable. Her voice may shake with emotion, but her resolve never wavers. This is her tribute to Zeke – ensuring other animals experience the same devoted love she shared with her companion.
